We recently welcomed the lovely Amy to our Client Services team. Now that she’s firmly settled in with the We are Fred family, we thought it was high time we found out a bit more about what motivates Amy, and why she doesn’t fast-forward through the adverts on the TV…..

Where were you before you joined We are Fred?

I was doing the marketing for an ocean technology company. With it being such a niche industry I had to work really hard to help it raise its profile. Quickly becoming an expert in WordPress, I spent a lot of time redesigning the website, adding insightful and engaging copy and then spreading the word across social media platforms. By the time I left the website was getting over 100 hits a day!

How did you get into marketing?

When I left school I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I chose media and photography at A-level because I really liked the creative side and knew I wanted to learn more. If I’m honest I didn’t realise at that point how much I would enjoy the course but from the moment I started I was hooked. I’m fascinated by the power of advertising and marketing and how relatable it is to every person and everyday life.

After my A-levels I enrolled on a marketing and advertising degree at Northampton University. Continuing my fascination around how companies best engage with their audiences I did my dissertation looking at the effectiveness of social media channels when influencing millennials. I also spent a long time looking at the effectiveness of adverts in dealing with hard-hitting issues. My mum says I’m the only person she knows that doesn’t fast-forward through the adverts on TV! I just love to watch them.

What do you think makes good advertising?

I like how advertising can deal with subjects such as race, sexuality and other diversity issues. It’s interesting to see how this has changed over time and equally how much power advertisers hold. Adverts that get people talking can be really impactful – it’s not about a hard-sell anymore but more about creating a conversation.

What does your role at We are Fred entail?

As an Account Executive it’s my job to liaise with clients, interpret briefs, research projects, and ensure that projects are delivered within budget. Working alongside the creative team to deliver projects on time to an exceptionally high standard, ensuring that they deliver the objectives we were asked to.

What are you most looking forward to about your role at the agency?

So many things! I’m excited to be working with a great team and looking forward to learning from some of the best in the business and increasing my industry knowledge. This is a really exciting time to join We are Fred as there are some really significant projects in the pipeline (keep checking our website for news on these!) and while it’s great to be working on some of the more long-standing client accounts, it will be nice to get the new projects off the ground and be part of them from the get-go.

Why did you decide to join We are Fred?

Being part of an experienced and supportive team was really the biggest appeal. From the moment I walked through the door of the studio at my interview I felt like it was somewhere I could really fit in. Everyone was very welcoming and you could immediately tell that it was an environment where everyone is treated as an equal with real value and purpose.

How would you describe yourself?

A bit creative and a bit business – hopefully that equates to a good combination for our clients!

Where can we find you outside of work?

I’m a big foodie so you can often find me trying out new restaurants. Following the same theme, I recently returned from a trip around Italy so I’m currently lusting over the amazing food and beautiful scenery and planning my next visit there – I’m hooked!
